The chaining of the Shayāṭīn and the virtue of Ramaḍān

7384 – Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from Ibn Abī Anas from Abū Hurayra.  He said: The Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said: When the month of Ramaḍān has entered the gates of mercy have been opened, and the gates of Jahannam have been closed, and the Shayāṭīn have been chained.

7385 – Maʿmar from Abān from Saʿīd b. Jubayr.  He said: I reckon it from Ibn ʿUmar.  He said: The Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said: When the first night of the month of Ramaḍān has entered the gates of the Gardens have been opened, so no gate from it is closed for all of the month.  And the gates of the Fire have been closed, so no gate from it is opened for all of the month.  And the rebellious (marada) of the jinn are fettered.  Then there are emancipates for God from the Fire at the time of every breaking of the fast (fiṭr), servants and bondswomen.

7386 – Ibn ʿUyayna from ʿAṭā b. al-Sā’ib from ʿArfaja.  He said: We were mentioning the month of Ramaḍān, so ʿUtba b. Farqad said: What are you mentioning?

He said: We were mentioning the month of Ramaḍān.

So he said: Indeed I heard the Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ saying: The gates of the Garden are opened in it, and the gates of the Fire are closed in it, and the Shayāṭīn are fettered in it, and a caller calls out in every night in it: O seeker of good, come, and O seeker of evil, fall short.
