Separating between Ramaḍān and Shaʿbān

7311 – Ibn Jurayj said: ʿAṭā reported to me.  He said: I was with Ibn ʿAbbās before Ramaḍān by a day or two days, and his lunch was brought near.  So he said: Break your fast, O fasting people, do not connect Ramaḍān with anything, and separate.

He said: And Ibn ʿAbd al-Qārī was fasting, and I reckoned that he broke his fast.

7312 – Ibn Jurayj said: ʿAmr b. Dīnār reported to me.  He said: Ibn ʿAbbās would command a separation between them.

7314 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: Does the Day of al-Fiṭr suffice you to separate with it?

He said: No.  He said: (Some) days before it or after it.

7318 – al-Thawrī from Manṣūr from Ribʿī b. Ḥirāsh from a man.  He said: We were with ʿAmmār b. Yāsir in the day in which it is doubted whether it is in Ramaḍān.  So he brought a roasted sheep, and a man withdrew from the group.

He said: Come near.

He said: I am fasting, and it is not but a fast that I was fasting.

So he said: Do you then believe in God and the Last Day?

And he gave him (food) to eat.

7322 – Ibn Jurayj from ʿAṭā.  He said: When a man has entered morning as one who has broken his fast, and he has not tasted anything, then he comes to know of its sighting in the beginning of the day or its end, he is to fast what remained and not change.

7328 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAmr b. Dīnār: Is it not said to the one who had intercourse with his wife in Ramaḍān that he is to complete that day, then to do qaḍā of it, and thus the one who has intercourse with his wife in the ḥajj?  He said: Yes.

7329 – Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān said: Ḥabīb b. al-Shahīd reported to me.  He said: I heard Muḥammad b. Sīrīn saying: That I break my fast a day from Ramaḍān – not intending to – is preferable to me than that I fast the day in which it is doubted (whether it is) from Shaʿbān.

Jaʿfar said: And Asmā b. ʿUbayd reported to me.  He said: We came to Muḥammad b. Sīrīn in the day in which it was doubted.  So we said to him: How do we act?

So he said to his boy: Go and look whether the Amīr has fasted or not.

He said: And the Amīr that day was ʿAdī b. Arṭā.

So he returned to him, and said: I found him breaking his fast.

He said: So Muḥammad called for his lunch and dined, and we dined with him.

7330 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to him: A person who broken his fast in the day in which it was doubted, then the report comes.  He said: He eats and drinks.
