Food and drink with doubt

7365- عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَبَانَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ قَالَ‏:‏ إِذَا نَظَرَ رَجُلاَنِ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ، فَشَكَّ أَحَدُهُمَا فَلْيَأْكُلاَ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمَا‏.‏


7365 – Maʿmar from Abān from Anas from Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq.  He said: When two men look to the dawn, and one of them doubts, then they are to eat until it becomes clear to them.


7366- أَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ اسْقِنِي يَا غُلاَمُ قَالَ‏:‏ أَصْبَحْتُ، فَقُلْتُ‏:‏ كَلاَّ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ‏:‏ شَكٌّ لَعَمْرُ اللهِ اسْقِنِي فَشَرِبَ‏.‏


7366 – Wahb b. Nāfiʿ reported to us from ʿIkrima the client of Ibn ʿAbbās.  He said: Give me drink, O boy.

He said: I have entered morning.

I said: Not at all.

Ibn ʿAbbās said: A doubt, by the life of God, give me drink.

So he drank.


7367- أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ‏:‏ أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ الشَّرَابَ مَا شَكَكْتَ حَتَّى لاَ تَشُكَّ‏.‏


7367 – Ibn Jurayj reported to us from ʿAṭā.  He said: Ibn ʿAbbās said: God has made drink lawful to you so long as you have doubted until you do not doubt.


7368- عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَجُلٌ، لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ‏:‏ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا شَكَكْتُ فِي الْفَجْرِ، وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ كُلْ مَا شَكَكْتَ حَتَّى لاَ تَشُكَّ‏.‏


7368 – Ibn ʿUyayna from al-Ḥasan b. ʿUbaydullāh from Muslim b. Ṣubayḥ.  He said: A man said to Ibn ʿAbbās: How do you regard when I have doubted about the dawn, and I intend to fast?

He said: Eat so long as you have doubted until you do not doubt.


7369- عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ أَبِي مُوسَى، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَجُلٌ‏:‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ، وَالإِنَاءُ عَلَى يَدِي، وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصَّوْمَ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ اشْرَبْ‏.‏


7369 – Ibn ʿUyayna from Isrā’īl Abū Mūsā from al-Ḥasan.  He said: A man said: O Messenger of God, the mu’adhdhan called the adhān while the vessel \ was before me and I intended to fast.

He said: Drink.


7370- عَنِ ابْنِ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ حَيَّانَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ‏:‏ سُئِلَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَسْمَعُ الأَذَانَ، وَعَلَيْهِ لَيْلٌ قَالَ‏:‏ فَلْيَأْكُلْ، قِيلَ‏:‏ وَإِنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُؤَذِّنًا آخَرَ قَالَ‏:‏ شَهِدَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ‏.‏


7370 – Ibn al-Taymī from his father from Ḥayyān b. ʿUmayr.  He said: Ibn ʿAbbās was asked about the man hearing the adhān while nighttime was upon him.  

He said: So he is to eat.

It was said: And he heard another adhān.

He said: One of them testified for his companion.


7371- أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ‏:‏ أَتَكْرَهُ إِنْ أَشْرَبَ، وَأَنَا فِي الْبَيْتِ لاَ أَدْرِي لَعَلَّيْ قَدْ أَصْبَحْتُ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ لاَ بَأْسَ بِذَلِكَ، هُوَ شَكٌّ‏.‏


7371 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: Is it disliked for me to drink while I am in the house, not knowing whether I have entered morning.

He said: There is no harm with that.  It is a doubt.
