Blood that comes in contact with the garment

1453 – Maʿmar said: I said to al-Zuhrī: The man sees the small amount of blood in his garment, or the large amount.

So he said: Sālim reported to me that Ibn ʿUmar would depart for the small amount of it and the large amount of it, then he would build upon what he had prayed unless he spoke (in which case) he would repeat (the prayer).

1454 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: Does the garment have a washing?  For you reported to me from ʿĀ’isha that she would rub off the blood – until he said: That is enough for you.

I said: So blood, and pus, and everything is in that manner, when it has been rubbed off it is enough?

He said: Yes, it is rubbed off then it is sprinkled (or: moistened), and it is enough for you.

I said to him: I rubbed off the blood from my garment and overcame me, not going out.

He said: Then sprinkle upon it (with water) is it is enough, even if you did not wash it.

1455 – Ibn Jurayj said: Someone questioned ʿAṭā and said: On my back there is skin on which there are sores, its pus has filled my garment, and the washing has discomforted (or: wearied) me.

So he said: Are you able to put dharūr (medicated powder sprinkled on a wound) on it to dry it?

He said: No.

He said: So pray and do not wash your garment, for God is worthiest of excusing.
