One who does tayammum then passes by water, does he do wuḍū? And does one do tayammum for the voluntary (prayers)?

892 – al-Thawrī said: When the man has done tayammum, then passed by some water.  So he said: Until he comes to other water then his tayammum has been broken and he does wuḍū for that prayer.  And when he has done tayammum then found water prior to doing taslīm in his prayer, so he has voided his tayammum and he does wuḍū for that prayer.

893 – Maʿmar said: I asked al-Zuhrī: Does the man do tayammum when he has not found water and pray a voluntary (prayer)?

He said: No.

894 – Ibn Jurayj, he said: I said to ʿAṭā: I took care of the need in one of these valley roads, so do I wipe with dirt and pray?

He said: As to the prayer, then no.
