The gecko that dies in tallow

292 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: The gecko dies in tallow, cooking oil (or: butter), and ointment and what is similar to this, does it have the status of the mouse in that?  He said: And I prefer.

293 – Maʿmar from Ayyūb from Ibn Sīrīn that a gecko fell in the cooking oil of the family of Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī, and they moistened a sawīq (barley porridge) with it.  Then they informed him so he said: Sell it to someone who deems it lawful, then notify him.

294 – Ibn Jurayj said: I was informed from ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn that a gecko died for them, and they moistened a sawīq with it and he drank from it.  Then he was informed about its affair.  So he said: Did you know?  They said: No.  So he clapped his hands and said: Sell the cooking oil and the sawīq to someone who is not of your religion, and state for them its affair.  Some of his family said: Shall we not light the lamp with it?  He said: Yea, if you want.
