The remaining drink of the riding animals

361- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ أَخْبَرَنِي صَدَقَةُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ قَالَ‏:‏ تَوَضَّأَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَا فَاحْتَبَسَ، عَنْ أَصْحَابِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالُوا‏:‏ مَا حَبَسَكَ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ دُوَيِّبَةٌ شَرِبَتِ الْهِرَّةُ قَالَ صَدَقَةُ‏:‏ لاَ أَدْرِي أَمِنْ وَضُوئِهِ أَمْ مِنْ فَضْلِ وَضُوئِهِ لاَ أَدْرِي وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ، حِينَئِذٍ عِنْدَنَا مِمَّنْ سَمِعَ الْعِلْمَ‏:‏ بَلْ مِنْ وَضُوئِهِ‏.‏


361 – Ibn Jurayj said: Ṣadaqa b. Yasār reported to me.  He said: The Prophet صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ did wuḍū one day while he was confined from his companions.  Then he went out and they said: What confined you?  

He said: A small creature (?) that the cat drank.  

Ṣadaqa said: I don’t know whether it was from his wuḍū or from the leftover of his wuḍū, I don’t know.

And a man who was with us then, who had heard knowledge said: Rather it was from his wuḍū.


362- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ‏:‏ الْحِمَارُ يَشْرَبُ فِي جَفْنَتِي‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ نَعَمْ، وَتَوَضَّأَ بِفَضْلِهِ، ثُمَّ تَلاَ ‏{‏وَالْخَيْلَ وَالْبِغَالَ وَالْحَمِيرَ لِتَرْكَبُوهَا‏}‏، قُلْتُ‏:‏ فَإِنَّهُ يُنْهَى، عَنْ أَكْلِهِ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ لَيْسَ أَكْلُهُ مِثْلَ أَنْ يُتَوَضَّأَ بِفَضْلِهِ فَاسْقِهِ بِجَفْنَتِكَ‏.‏


362 – Ibn Jurayj: I said to ʿAṭā: The donkey drinks in my jafna (a large food bowl)?  

He said: Yes, and you do wuḍū from its leftover.  Then he recited “And horses, and mules, and donkeys, for you to ride” (16:8) 

I said: Consuming it is prohibited?  

He said: Consuming it is not like wuḍū being done from its leftover, so give it to drink from your large food bowl.


363- عَنِ ابْنِ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ بِفَضْلِ الْحِمَارِ‏.‏


363 – Ibn Mujāhid from his father that he used to wuḍū with the leftover of the donkey.


364- عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ رَأَى مُجَاهِدًا يَتَوَضَّأُ بِفَضْلِ الْحِمَارِ‏.‏


364 – Maʿmar from a man who saw Mujāhid doing wuḍū with the leftover of the donkey.


365- عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ سَأَلْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ، عَنِ الْوُضُوءِ مِنْ فَضْلِ الْحِمَارِ فَقَالَ‏:‏ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ‏.‏ وَقَالَ مَعْمَرٌ‏:‏ وَأَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ‏:‏ لاَ بَأْسَ مِنْ فَضْلِ الْحِمَارِ بِالْوَضُوءِ‏.‏


365 – Maʿmar.  He said: I asked al-Zuhrī about wuḍū from the leftover of the donkey.  So he said: There is no harm with it.

And Maʿmar said: And someone reported to me who heard al-Ḥasan saying: There is no harm with the leftover of the donkey for the wuḍū. 


366- عبد الرزاق، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ قَالَ‏:‏ سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ، عَنْ سُؤْرِ الْحِمَارِ، فَقَالَ‏:‏ لاَ بَأْسَ بِفَضْلِ الدَّوَابِّ كُلِّهَا‏.‏

قَالَ‏:‏ وَسَأَلْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيَّ، عَنْ سُؤْرِ الْحِمَارِ فَكَرِهَهُ‏.‏


366 – ʿAbd al-Razzāq from his father from ʿAbd al-Karīm.  He said: I asked al-Ḥasan about the su’r of the donkey.  So he said: There no harm with the leftovers of any of the riding animals.

He said: And I asked Ibrāhīm al-Nakhʿī about the su’r of the donkey and he disliked it.


367- عَنِ ابْنِ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ‏:‏ لاَ بَأْسَ بِسُؤْرِ الْحِمَارِ‏.‏


367 – Ibn al-Taymī from his father from al-Ḥasan.  He said: There is no harm with the su’r of the donkey.


368- عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ‏:‏ لاَ بَأْسَ بِالْوُضُوءِ بِفَضْلِ الْحِمَارِ‏.‏


368 – Hishām from al-Ḥasan.  He said: There is no harm with wuḍū with the leftover of the donkey.


369- عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، كَرِهَ سُؤْرَ الْحِمَارِ وَالْبَغْلِ وَالْكَلْبِ وَلاَ يَرَى بِسُؤْرِ الْفَرَسِ الشَّاةِ بَأْسًا‏.‏


369 – al-Thawrī from Mughīra from Ibrāhīm.  He disliked the su’r of the donkey, the mule, and the dog, and did not regard there to be any harm with the su’r of the horse (and) the sheep.


370- عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، مِثْلَهُ‏.‏


370 – Hishām from Mughīra from Ibrāhīm likewise.


371- عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، أَنَّهُ كَرِهَ أَنْ يُتَوَضَّأَ بِفَضْلِ الْحِمَارِ قَالَ‏:‏ وَهَلْ هُوَ إِلاَّ الْحِمَارُ‏؟‏


371 – Maʿmar from Qatāda that he dislike to do wuḍū with the leftover of the donkey.  He said: And is not but the donkey?


372- عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ‏:‏ مَا لاَ تَأْكُلُ لَحْمَهُ لاَ تَتَوَضَّأُ بِفَضْلِهِ، قَالَ قَتَادَةُ‏:‏ وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا يَخْتَلِفُ فِيمَا أُكِلَ لَحْمُهُ مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ أَنْ يُتَوَضَّأَ بِفَضْلِهِ وَيُشْرَبُ مِنْهُ‏.‏


372 – Maʿmar from Qatāda.  He said: Do not do wuḍū with the leftover of (any animal) whose meat you do not eat.  Qatāda said: And I have not heard anyone disagreeing in regards to riding animals that are eaten, that wuḍū is done from its leftover and that it is drunken from.


373- عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَكْرَهُ سُؤْرَ الْحِمَارِ وَالْكَلْبِ وَالْهِرِّ أَنْ يُتَوَضَّأَ بِفَضْلِهِمْ‏.‏


373 – ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar from Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar that he used to dislike the su’r of the donkey, the dog, and the cat, to do wuḍū with their leftover.


374- عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، مِثْلَهُ‏.‏


374 – al-Thawrī from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿUmar from Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar likewise.
