The man for whom it is ambiguous in the prayer whether he has had a ḥadath or not

533 – Maʿmar reported to us from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr.  He said: ʿIyāḍ b. Hilāl reported to me that he heard Abū Hurayra saying: The Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم said: When Shayṭān renders one of you doubtful while he is in his prayer he says “You have had a ḥadath”, then he is to say within himself “You have lied”, until he hears a noise with his ear or finds an odor with his nose.  So when one you has prayed and did not know whether he increased (in his prayer) or decreased, then he is to prostrate two prostrations while he is sitting.

534 – Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from Ibn al-Musayyib that the Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم was asked about the man who is doubting in his prayer.  He said: He does not depart unless he finds an odor or hears a noise.

535 – Abū Bakr b. ʿAbdullāh that ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad the client of Aslam narrated to him that a man came to the Prophet صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم and said to him: When I am praying I imagine that the thing has exited from my urethra, or the flatus (lit. wind) has exited from me.  So do I break my prayer?

He said: No, that is only from Shayṭān, entering in the urethra of one of you until he imagines that the flatus has exited from him.  So when one you finds that, then he does not break his prayer until he finds a wetness or a flatus or hears a noise.

536 – al-Thawrī from al-Aʿmash from al-Minhāl b. ʿAmr from Qays b. al-Sakan.  He said: Ibn Masʿūd said: Shayṭān goes round the man in his prayer so as to cut his prayer.  So when he has exhausted (or: frustrated) him he blows in his posterior.  So when one of you senses (that), then he is not to depart until he finds an odor or hears a sound.

537 – al-Thawrī from Ḥammād from Ibrāhīm.  He said: ʿAbdullāh said: Indeed Shayṭān blows in the posterior of the man.  So when one of you senses that, then he is not to depart until he hears a sound or finds an odor.

538 – al-Thawrī from al-Mughīra from Ibrāhīm.  He said: It is said that Shayṭān flows in the urethra and bites in the posterior.  So when one of you senses something from that, then he is not to depart until he hears a sound or finds an odor.
