The man spitting some blood

563- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ‏:‏ الرَّجُلُ يَتَنَخَّمُ دَمًا، هَلْ عَلَيْهِ الْوُضُوءُ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ لاَ، قُلْتُ‏:‏ أَيُمَضْمِضُ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ لاَ، إِنْ شَاءَ‏.‏


563 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: The man expectorating blood, is the wuḍū upon him (to do)?  

He said: No.  

I said: Does he rinse his mouth?  

He said: No, (only) if he wants to.


564- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ‏:‏ أُدْخِلُ عُودًا فِي فَمِي فَيَخْرُجُ فِيهِ دَمٌ قَالَ‏:‏ فَلاَ تُمَضْمِضْ‏.‏


564 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: I insert a stick in my mouth, and some blood comes out in it.  

He said: So do not rinse your mouth.


565- عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ قَالَ‏:‏ بَصَقَ مُجَاهِدٌ دَمًا فَتَوَضَّأَ‏.‏


565 – al-Thawrī from ʿUthmān b. al-Aswad.  He said: Mujāhid spat some blood so he did wuḍū.


566- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ‏:‏ رَجُلٌ مَفْؤُودٌ يَنْفُثُ دَمًا، أَوْ مَصْدُورٌ يَنْهَرُ قَيْحًا أَحَدَثٌ هُوَ‏؟‏ قَالَ‏:‏ لاَ، وَلاَ وُضُوءَ عَلَيْهِ مِمَّا لَيْسَ بِطَعَامٍ‏.‏


566 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: A man that is smitten, spitting blood, or consumptive, flowing pus.  Has he had a ḥadath (i.e. is his wudu broken)?  

He said: No, there is no wuḍū upon him from what is not food.


567- عَنْ رَجُلٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ قَالَ‏:‏ بَصَقْتُ دَمًا قَالَ‏:‏ فَمَضْمِضْ، وَتُصَلِّي‏.‏


567 – A man from Muḥammad b. Jābir from Abū Isḥāq that a man asked ʿAlqama b. Qays.  He said: I spat some blood.  

He said: Rinse your mouth and you pray.


568- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ إِنْ سَالَ مِنَ اللِّثَةِ دَمٌ فِي الْفَمِ فَفِيهِ الْوُضُوءُ، وَإِنْ نَزَعْتَ سِنًّا فَسَالَ مَعَهَا دَمٌ حَتَّى تَبْزُقَ فَفِيهِ الْوُضُوءُ، وَاللِّثَةُ اللَّحْمُ الَّذِي فَوْقَ الأَسْنَانِ‏.‏


568 – Ibn Jurayj from ʿAṭā.  He said: If blood flows from the gum in the mouth, then the wuḍū is (done) in it.  And if you extracted a tooth and blood flowed with it until you spat, then the wuḍū is (done) in it.  And the gum is the flesh which is above the teeth.


569- عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ‏:‏ بَصَقْتُ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَخَرَجَ دَمٌ فِي الْبُصَاقِ قَالَ‏:‏ فَلاَ تُمَضْمِضْ إِنْ شِئْتَ، إِنَّ الدِّينَ يَسْمَحُ، بَلَغَنِي، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُقَالُ‏:‏ اسْمَحُوا يُسْمَحْ لَكُمْ‏.‏


569 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: I spat in the prayer so blood came out in the spit.  

He said: So do not rinse your mouth if you want, indeed the religion is lenient.  It has reached me that it used to be said: Show leniency, leniency will be shown to you.


570- عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَبْصُقُ دَمًا قَالَ‏:‏ إِذَا كَانَ الْغَالِبُ عَلَيْهِ الدَّمُ تَوَضَّأْ‏.‏


570 – Maʿmar from Ayyūb from Ibn Sīrīn regarding the man spitting some blood.  He said: When the blood was overcoming him he does wuḍū.


571- عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، وَابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ قَالَ‏:‏ رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى، بَصَقَ دَمًا، ثُمَّ صَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ‏.‏


571 – al-Thawrī and Ibn ʿUyayna from ʿAṭā b. al-Sā’ib.  He said: I saw ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Awfā spit some blood, then he prayed and he had not done wuḍū.
