The wound that does not cease bleeding

578 – Maʿmar from Hishām b. ʿUrwa.  He said: I had some boils so I asked my father about it.

So he said: If it ceases bleeding then wash it and do wuḍū, and if it does not cease bleeding then do wuḍū and pray.  And if something comes out then do not mind, for ʿUmar had prayed while his wound was flowing blood.

579 – al-Thawrī from Hishām b. ʿUrwa from his father.  He said: Sulaymān b. Yasār narrated to me that al-Miswar b. Makhrama reported to him.

He said: I and Ibn ʿAbbās entered upon ʿUmar when he had been stabbed.

We said: The prayer.

He said: There is no share for anyone in Islam who has squandered the prayer.

So he prayed while his wound was flowing blood.

580 – Ibn Jurayj said: I heard Ibn Mulayka.  Ibn ʿAbbās and al-Miswara b. Makhrama entered upon ʿUmar when they had departed from the prayer after he had been stabbed, and they found him praying the morning (prayer).

They said: The prayer.

He said: Yes, whoever abandons the prayer has no share in Islam.

So he did wuḍū then he prayed while his wound was flowing blood.

581 – Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh from Ibn ʿAbbās.  He said: When ʿUmar was stabbed I and a band from the Anṣār bore him until he entered him into his home.  He did not cease to be in a single loss of consciousness until he rose.

A man said: You will never seek succor by anything save by the prayer.

He said: We said: The prayer, O Commander of the Believers.

He said: So he opened his eyes, then he said: Have the people prayed?

We said: Yes.

He said: But there is no share in Islam for anyone who abandons the prayer.

So he prayed while his wound was flowing blood.
