The drop of urine and sprinkling of the urethra when one has found wetness

582 – Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from Khārija b. Zayd.  He said: Zayd grew old until he had involuntary urination.  So he would treat it so far as he was able to, and when it would overcome him he would do wuḍū then pray.

583 – al-Thawrī from al-Aʿmash from Saʿīd b. Jubayr and other than him from Ibn ʿAbbās.  He said: A man complained to him and said: I am in my prayer and I imagine that there is wetness on my penis.

He said: May God fight Shayṭān.  He touches the penis of the person in his prayer to make him think that he has had a ḥadath.  When you have done wuḍū, then sprinkle your private with water.  So if you find (what you have described), you say “It is from the water.”

So the man did that and it (or: he) left.

584 – ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān, he said: I heard Saʿīd b. Jubayr.  He said: And a man asked him, so he said: I encountered a severity from urine when I did takbīr and entered into the prayer that I found.

Saʿīd said: Obey me, do what I command you for fifteen days.  Do wuḍū, then enter into your prayer and do not depart (from it).

585 – Dāwūd b. Qays said: I asked Muḥammad b. Kaʿb al-Quraẓī.  I said: I do wuḍū and I find a wetness.

He said: When you have done wuḍū then sprinkle your private.  So if it (the wetness) comes to you, then say “It is from the water which I sprinkled”, for it will not leave you until it comes to you and makes it difficult for you.

586 – Maʿmar from Manṣūr from Mujāhid from Sufyān b. al-Ḥakam or al-Ḥakam b. Sufyān that when the Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ would do wuḍū and finish, he took a handful of water and would sprinkle his private with it.

587 – al-Thawrī from Manṣūr from Mujāhid from Sufyān b. al-Ḥakam or al-Ḥakam b. Sufyān al-Thaqafī that when the Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ would urinate and do wuḍū, he sprinkled his private (with water).

588 – ʿAbdullah b. ʿUmar from Nāfiʿ.  He said: Ibn ʿUmar used to do wuḍū and not wash the trace of urine, rather he would sprinkle (it).

589 – al-Thawrī from al-Ḥasan b. ʿUbaydullāh al-Nakhʿī from Abū al-Ḍuḥā.  He said: I saw Ibn ʿUmar doing wuḍū, then he sprinkled until I saw wetness from behind him in his clothing.

590 – Ibn ʿUyayna from al-Ḥasan b. ʿUbaydullāh.  He said: I heard Muslim b. Ṣubayḥ saying: I saw Ibn ʿUmar take a scoop of water and pour it between his waistcloth and his stomach upon his private.

591 – Maʿmar from Ayyūb from Ḥumayd b. Hilāl that Ḥudhayfa b. al-Yamān said: When I have done wuḍū then something has come out from me after that, I do not repeat it by this.  Or he said: the like of this.  And he put his saliva upon his finger.

592 – Ibn al-Taymī from his father that Ḥudhayfa b. al-Yamān, Zayd b. Thābit, al-Ḥasan and ʿAṭā did not regard there to be any harm with wetness that the man find in the prayer so long as it has not dripped.

593 – Maʿmar, he said: I heard ʿAbd al-Hakam b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abī Farwa saying: It used to afflict me in the prayer, and I would find wetness, and it would come out from me in the prayer so I would depart then and there a number of times and do wuḍū.

So I asked Ibn al-Musayyib and he said: Do not depart.

He said: So I figured he thought that it was only doubtful upon me.  He said: I said: It becomes much from that, it hits my feet – or he said: the ground.

He said: Do not depart.  When you have sensed that then receive it with your garment.

So a brother who was sitting with him said to me: Do you know what he said to you?  He said: Wash your garment when you are finished from your prayer.

And I had not heard it.

He said: So I did what he said, and I did not wait for it to go from me.

594 – Maʿmar from Ayyūb from Ibn Sīrīn that he used to regard the drop to be a ḥadath.  And al-Ḥasan said it too.

595 – Maʿmar, he said: A man asked him and he said: I find wetness while I am in prayer, do I depart?

He said: No, not until it is a drop.

I think that he said that day: Is there anyone but that he finds wetness?

596 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: I found a misgiving from semen prior to zhuhr, and I did not look at it until I departed from maghrib.  So I found semen in the tip of my penis.

He said: Repeat all of your prayer.

I said:  How you regard if I had prayed ẓuhr, ʿaṣr, and maghrib, then I returned, and then I find madhī (prostatic fluid) and I did not tidy up (?) prior to that or after it.

He said: So do not repeat it, for you might have discharged madhī after you had prayed.

I said: I had intercourse, then I left and found a misgiving prior to ẓuhr.  I did not depart from my prayer until I returned at night and I found some madhī had dried on the tip of the urethra.  I had dinner and I did not hasten from my dinner, then I left to the masjid and prayed ẓuhr and ʿaṣr and maghrib saying: I will repeat them.

So he regarded that I had done correctly in what I repeated.
