Wuḍū of the sick

861 – Abū Saʿīd Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Ziyād b. Bishr reported to us.  He said: Abū Yaʿqūb al-Dabarī narrated to us from Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: Is there a dispensation the ill or the sick to not cleanse and not thoroughly perform the wuḍū?

He said: No.

862 – Ibn Jurayj said: Qays reported to me from Mujāhid that he said: There is a dispensation for the sick person with smallpox and what is similar to him to not do wuḍū.  And he recited “If you are sick or upon a journey” (4:43, 5:6) then he says: It is what is obscure from the interpretation of the Quran.

And from Saʿīd b. Jubayr likewise.

863 – Maʿmar from Ibn Abī Najīḥ from Mujāhid.  He said: He would say regarding this verse “And if you are sick or upon a journey”, or one of you has come from the privy, he said: It is for the sick person when janāba has afflicted him, when he fears for himself, then he has the dispensation in the tayammum like the traveler when he has not found water.
