Regarding the tasmiyya in the wuḍū

14- حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حدَّثَنِي رُبَيْحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم‏:‏ لاَ وُضُوءَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ‏.‏


14 – Zayd b. al-Ḥubāb and Muḥammad b. al-Zubayr narrated to us from Kathīr b. Zayd.  He said: Rubayḥ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Saʿīd al-Khudrī narrated to me from his father from his grandfather Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī.

He said: The Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم said: There is no wuḍū for the one who did not mention the name of God upon it.


15- حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، قَالَ‏:‏ حدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حَرْمَلَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا ثِفَالٍ يُحَدِّثُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَبَاحَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حُوَيْطِبٍ يَقُولُ‏:‏ حَدَّثَتْنِي جَدَّتِي، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ أَبَاهَا يَقُولُ‏:‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم يَقُولُ‏:‏ لاَ صَلاَةَ لِمَنْ لاَ وُضُوءَ لَهُ، وَلاَ وُضُوءَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ‏.‏


15 – ʿAffān narrated to us.  He said: Wuhayb narrated to us.  He said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥarmala narrated to us that he heard Abū Thiqāl narrating that he heard Rabāḥ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abi Sufyān b. Ḥuwayṭib saying: My grandfather narrated to me that he heard his father saying:

I heard the Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم saying: There is no prayer for the one who has no wuḍū, and there is no wuḍū for the one who did not mention the name of God upon it.


16- حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ حَارِثَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، قَالَتْ‏:‏ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ‏:‏ كَيْفَ كَانَتْ صَلاَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم‏؟‏ قَالَتْ‏:‏ كَانَ إذَا تَوَضَّأَ فَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ فِي الْمَاءِ، سَمَّى، فَتَوَضَّأَ، وَيُسْبِغُ الْوُضُوءَ‏.‏


16 – ʿAbda narrated to us from Ḥāritha from ʿAmra.  She said: I asked ʿĀ’isha: How was the prayer of the Messenger of God صَلَّى الله عَلَيه وسَلَّم?

She said: When he did wuḍū he placed his hand in the water, he pronounced the name (of God).  So he did wuḍū and performed the wuḍū thoroughly.


17- حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُمَارَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ إذَا تَوَضَّأَ الْعَبْدُ، فَذَكَرَ اسْمَ اللهِ حِينَ يَأْخُذُ فِي وَضُوئَهُ، طَهُرَ جَسَدُهُ كُلُّهُ، وَإِذَا تَوَضَّأَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ، لَمْ يَطْهُرْ مِنْهُ، إِلاَّ مَا أَصَابَهُ الْمَاءُ‏.‏


17 – Khalaf b. Khalīfa narrated to us from Ḥusayn b. ʿUmāra from Abū Bakr.  He said: When the servant has done wuḍū and he mentioned the name of God when he was taking his wuḍū water, all of his body has been purified.  And when he has done wuḍū and not mentioned the name of God, naught but what the water came in contact with is purified from him.


18- حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ رَبِيعٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، أَنْهُ قَالَ‏:‏ يُسَمِّي إذَا تَوَضَّأَ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ أَجْزَأَهُ‏.‏ 


18 – Wakīʿ narrated to us from Rabīʿ from al-Ḥasan that he said: One pronounces the name (of God) when he does wuḍū.  So if he did not do so, it has sufficed him.
