43 ـ باب كراهة اتخاذ كلب في الدار إلا أن يكون كلب صيد أو ماشية أو يضطر اليه أو يغلق دونه الباب .

43 – Chapter on the dislike of taking a dog in the home unless it is a hunting or herding dog or one is need of it or shuts the door apart from it

 [ 15457 ] 1 ـ محمد بن يعقوب ، عن علي بن إبراهيم ، عن أبيه ، عن ابن أبي عمير ، عن حماد ، عن الحلبي ، عن أبي عبدالله ( عليه السلام ) قال : يكره أن يكون في دار الرجل المسلم الكلب . 

1 – Muhammad b. Ya`qub from `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from Ibn Abi `Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabi from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام. He said: It is disliked for the dog to be in the home of the Muslim man.

 [ 15458 ] 2 ـ وعن محمد بن يحيى ، عن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى ، عن يوسف بن عقيل ، عن محمد بن قيس ، عن أبي جعفر ( عليه السلام ) قال : قال أمير المؤمنين ( عليه السلام ) لا خير في الكلاب إلا كلب صيد أو كلب ماشية . 

2 – And from Muhammad b. Yahya from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa from Yusuf b. `Aqil from Muhammad b. Qays from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام.  He said: Amir al-Mu’mineen عليه السلام said: There is no good in dogs except for a hunting dog or a herding dog.

 [ 15459 ] 3 ـ وعدة من أصحابنا ، عن أحمد بن محمد بن خالد ، عن أبيه ، عن النضر بن سويد ، عن القاسم بن سليمان ، عن جراح المدائني ، عن أبي عبدالله ( عليه السلام ) قال : لا تمسك كلب الصيد في الدار إلا أن يكون بينك وبينه باب . 

3 – And from a number of our companions from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from his father from an-Nadr b. Suwayd from al-Qasim b. Sulayman from Jarrah al-Mada’ini from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.  He said: Do not keep a hunting dog in the home unless there is a door between you and it.

 [ 15460 ] 4 ـ وعنهم ، عن أحمد ، عن عثمان بن عيسى ، عن سماعة قال : سألته عن كلب الصيد ، يمسك في الدار ؟ قال : إذا كان يغلق دونه الباب فلا بأس . 

4 – And from him from Ahmad from `Uthman b. `Isa from Sama`a.  He said: I asked him about the hunting dog, is it kept in the home?  He said: When the door shuts apart from it then there is no harm.

 [ 15461 ] 5 ـ وعنهم ، عن أحمد بن محمد ، عن ابن فضال ، عن ابن بكير ، عن زرارة ، عن أبي عبدالله ( عليه السلام ) قال : ما من احد يتخذ كلبا إلا نقص في كل يوم من عمل صاحبه قيراط . 

5 – And from them from Ahmad b. Muhammad from Ibn Faddal from Ibn Bukayr from Zurara from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.  He said: There is no one that takes a dog but that a carat from the act of its owner is decreased every day.

 [ 15462 ] 6 ـ وعنهم ، عن أحمد ، عن عثمان بن عيسى ، عن سماعة قال : سألته عن الكلب ، يمسك في الدار ؟ قال : لا . 

6 – And from them from Ahmad from `Uthman b. `Isa from Sama`a.  He said: I asked him about the dog, is it kept in the home?  He said: No.

 [ 15463 ] 7 ـ وعن على بن إبراهيم ، عن أبيه ، عن النوفلي ، عن السكوني ، عن أبي عبدالله ( عليه السلام ) ان النبي ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ) رخص لاهل القاصية في كلب يتخذونه . 

7 – And from `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father from an-Nawfali from as-Sakuni from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله permitted for the people of the country to get a dog. 

 اقول : هذا مخصوص بأهل القاصية ، او محمول على الضرورة إليه ، او على كونه كلب صيد او ماشية ، لما سبق هنا ، وفي النجاسات ، وفي مكان المصلي وغير ذلك ، ولما يأتي ايضا . 

I say: This is specific to the people of the country, or interpreted to be upon need for it, or upon its being a hunting or herding dog, due to what has passed here, and in the (sections of) najasat and in the place of the praying person and other that, and due to what is coming also.
