15 – Ibn Jurayj said: I said to ʿAṭā: I said to ʿAṭā: How does the person with two braids (?) wipe his head?  He said: On whatever of them that is upon his head it is enough.  He does not shave his head, or wipe the tips of the hair.

Then ʿAṭā put his hand on his head and he wiped the hair on its roots, and he passed his hands upon whatever of it was on his head.  So he put down (?) his hands and did not return them upwards receiving the hair.  And I saw and he had not passed beyond the head.

And I asked him about the person who has much hair.  So he said: This saying is in them both.  I had seen ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr – and he had much hair – he would turn away whatever hair that was on his face, and he did it between his ears and his head.  So he would touch that which was between his ears and his head, and he did not touch anything from the mass of his hair save for what was on his head of it.

16 – al-Thawrī said: When the man has wiped his head and he did not wipe his ears it suffices him.  And if he wiped his ears and he did not wipe his head it does not suffice him.
