Chapter 26

All knowledge that has been given to the former prophets was given to the Messenger صلى الله عليه وآله and his Ahl al-Bayt


محمد بن الحسن عن حماد عن ابراهيم بن عبد الحميد عن ابيه عن ابى الحسن الاول عليه السلام قال قلت له جعلت فداك النبي صلى الله عليه وآله ورث علم النبيين كلهم قال لى نعم قلت من لدن آدم إلى ان انتهى إلى نفسه قال نعم قلت ورثهم النبوة وما كان في آبائهم من النبوة والعلم قال ما بعث الله نبيا الا وقد كان محمد صلى الله عليه وآله اعلم منه قال قلت ان عيسى بن مريم كان يحيى الموتى باذن الله قال صدقت وسليمان بن داود كان يفهم كلام الطير قال وكان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله يقدر على هذه المنازل فقال ان سليمان بن داود قال للهدهد حين فقده وشك في امره مالى لا ارى الهدهد ام كان من الغائبين وكانت المردة والريح والنمل والانس والجن والشياطين له طائعين وغضب عليه فقال لاعذبنه عذابا شديدا أو لا ذبحنه أو ليأتيني بسلطان مبين وانما غضب عليه لانه كان يدله على الماء فهذا وهو طير قد اعطى ما لم يعط سليمان وانما اراده ليدله على الماء فهذا لم يعط سليمان وكانت المردة له طائعين ولم يكن يعرف الماء تحت الهواء وكانت الطير تعرفه ان الله يقول في كتابه ولو ان قرانا سيرت به الجبال أو قطعت به الارض أو كلم به الموتى فقد ورثنا نحن هذا القرآن فعندنا ما يقطع به الجبال ويقطع به البلدان ويحيى به الموتى باذن الله ونحن نعرف ما تحت الهواء وان كان في كتاب الله لايات ما يراد بها امر من الأمور التى اعطاه الله الماضين النبيين والمرسلين الا وقد جعله الله ذلك كله لنا في ام الكتاب ان الله تبارك وتعالى يقول وما من غائبة في السماء والأرض الا في كتاب مبين ثم قال عزوجل ثم اورثنا الكتاب الذين اصطفينا من عبادنا فنحن الذين اصطفينا الله فقد ورثنا علم هذا القرآن الذى فيه تبيان كل شئ.


1 – Muhammad b. al-Hasan from Hammad from Ibrahim b. `Abd al-Hamid from his father from Abu ‘l-Hasan the First عليه السلام.  He said: I said to him: May I be made your ransom, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله is the inheritor of the knowledge of all the prophets?  He said to me: Yes.  I said: Since Adam until it ended up to himself?  He said: Yes.  I said: He inherited prophethood from them and whatever was in their fathers of prophethood and knowledge?  He said: Allah has not sent a prophet but that Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله was more knowledgeable than him.  

He said: I said: `Isa b. Maryam used to revive the dead by the permission of Allah.  He said: You have told the truth, and Sulayman b. Dawud used to understand the speech of birds.  He said: And the Messenger of Allah was capable of these stations.  So he said: Sulayman b. Dawud said to the hoopoe when he lost it and doubted in his affair “How is it I see not the hoopoe? is he then amongst the absent?” (27:20) And the marada (a type of jinn), the wind, the ants, humans, jinn, and shayateen were obedient to him, and he became angry at it.  So he said “I shall punish it with a severe punishment or slaughter it or it bring me a clear authority” (27:21) And he only became angry at it because it used to direct him on the water.  This, and it is a bird that had been given what was not given to Sulayman.  And he only wanted it so that it would direct him on the water.  So this was not given to Sulayman.  And the marada were obedient to him, and he was not cognizant of the water under the air, while the birds were cognizant of it.  

Allah says in His book “If only a Quran whereby the mountains were set in motion, or the earth were cleft, or the dead were made to speak” (13:31) So we have inherited this Quran, and with us is what by which the mountains are set in motion and by which the cities are set in motion and by which the dead are revived, by the permission of Allah.  And we are cognizant of what is under the air.  And if there is ayat in the book of Allah by which is intended (?) an affair from the affairs of which Allah gave it to the past prophets and messengers, but that Allah has made all of that for us in the Mother of the Book.  Allah تبارك وتعالى says “And not a thing is there hidden in heaven and earth but it is in a clear book” (27:75) Then He عزوجل said “Then We bequeathed the Book on those of Our servants We chose” (35:32) So we are those whom Allah chose, and we have inherited the knowledge of this Quran in which is an explanation (tibyan) of everything.
