Chapter 10

Allah has always been knowing

1 – [al-Kafi] Muhammad b. Yahya from Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from al-Qasim b. Muhammad from `Abd as-Samad b. Bashir from Fudayl b. Sukkara.  He said: I said to Abu Ja`far عليه السلام: May I be made your ransom, if you regard (it good) to teach me, has Allah – glorious be His face – known prior to creating the creation that He is alone by Himself?  For your loyalists have differed, some of them said “He has known prior to creating anything of His creation”.  And some of them have said “The meaning of Him knowing is only Him doing, so today He knows that there is none other than him prior to the act of the things”  And they said “If we establish that He has always been knowing that there is none other than Him, then we will have established that there is one other than Him along with Him in His pre-eternity”  So if you regard, O my master, to teach me what I shall turn away from it to something else?  So he عليه السلام wrote: Allah has always been knowing, blessed and exalted be His mention.
