Uns al-`Alim as-Safwani

And from what we have extracted from the book Uns al-`Alim, the composition of as-Safwani.

He said: It is narrated that a man came to Amir al-Mu’mineen عليه السلام and he said to him: O Amir al-Mu’mineen, I love you, and I love so-and-so.  And he named one (or: some) of his enemies.  So he عليه السلام said to him: As for now, then you are one-eyed.  So either you will go blind or you will see.

And it was said to as-Sadiq عليه السلام: So-and-so is loyal to you, however he is too weak to disassociate (al-bara’at) from your enemies.  He said: How far be it, whoever claims to love us but does not disassociate from our enemies has lied.

And it is narrated from ar-Rida عليه السلام that he said: The perfection (or: completion) of religion is loyalty to us (walayatuna) and disassociation from our enemies.

Then as-Safwani said: And know, O my son, that walayat is not complete, and love is not pure, and the friendship of the family of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله is established, naught but by disassociation from their enemies, whether he be near (in relation to) you or distant.  So let not compassion take you for him, for Allah عزوجل says “You shall not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day who are loving to anyone who opposes Allah and His Messenger, not though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their clan.” (58:22) (to the end of) the ayat.  And betake you, O my son, to knowledge, may Allah grant you success in it, and provide you its narrations and bestow upon you its cognizance.

So it has been narrated from our master as-Sadiq عليه السلام that he said: A report that you cognate is better than a thousand that you narrate.

And he عليه السلام said in another hadith: Betake you to cognitions not to narrations.

And Talha b. Zayd narrated, he said: Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام said: The narrators of the Book are many, and its caretakers are few.  So how many from the transcribers of the hadith are frauds with the Book.  And the investigation of the ones who know (al-`ulama) is (in) cognition, while the investigation of the ignorant is (in) narration.

He said: And it is narrated that shaving the head is a mutilation for the youth and veneration for the elder.

(Thus is) completed the extracted ahadith from the book of as-Safwani.
