Place of Salat

Place of Salat

Chapter 1

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله said: The Earth has been made a place of prostration (masjid) for me, and its dirt a purifier.  Wherever salat has reached me, I have prayed.

And he عليه السلام said: The Earth was made a place of prostration and purifier for me.

And he عليه السلام said: The Earth, all of it, is a place of prostration except for the hammam and the grave.

And as-Sadiq عليه السلام said: The Earth, all of it, is a place of prostration except for a well of excrement (outhouse?), or a graveyard.

Chapter 2

`Ali عليه السلام said: Look in what you pray, and upon what you pray, if it is not from what He has allowed and (for) His face then there is no acceptance.

And as-Sadiq عليه السلام said: Were the people to have taken what Allah commanded them, and spent in what He prohibited them from, He would not have accepted it from them.   And were they to have taken what He prohibited them from, and spent in what He commanded them, He would not have accepted it from them, until they took it out of a right and spent it in a right.

Chapter 3

as-Sadiq عليه السلام was asked about whether something passing in front of the man breaks his salat.  So he said” Nothing breaks the salat of the Muslim, however avert what you are able to.

And `Ali عليه السلام was asked about the man praying, and the man, the woman, the dog and the donkey pass in front of him.  So he said: Nothing breaks the salat, however averting what you are able to is better than that.

And it is narrated: Nothing breaks the salat of the believer.

Chapter 4

Abu ‘l-Hasan عليه السلام said: When the believer dies, the angels cry over him and the areas of the Earth upon which he used to worship Allah and the gates of Heaven in which his acts would ascend.

And as-Sadiq عليه السلام said: Pray in the mosques in different areas, for each area bears witness for the praying person upon it on the day of the resurrection.
