1 – Muhammad b. Ya`qub from a number of our companions from Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from Fadala b. Ayyub from Husayn b. `Uthman from Sama`a b. Mihran from Abu Basir.  He said: I asked Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام about the voluntary faster to whom the need presents itself (i.e. to break his fast).  He said: He has the choice in what is between him and the afternoon (al-`asr), and if he stays until the afternoon then it appears (seemly) to him to fast – even if he had not intended that – so it is (allowed) for him to fast that day if he wants.

And as-Saduq narrated it by his isnad from Sama`a and by his isnad from Abu Basir.

And he also narrated it in a mursal fashion.

And he narrated it in al-Muqni` in a mursal fashion.

And the Shaykh narrated it by his isnad from al-Husayn b. Sa`id.
