103

103 – And hold fast to the rope of Allah altogether, and do not divide; and remember the favors of Allah towards you, when you were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts, and on the morrow you were, by His favor, brothers. You were on the edge of a pit of fire, but He rescued you therefrom. Thus does Allah show to you His signs, perchance you may be guided.

[Tafsir al-`Ayyashi] From Jabir from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام.  He said: The Family of Muhammad عليهم السلام are the rope of Allah which we have been commanded to hold fast unto, so He said “And hold fast to the rope of Allah altogether, and do not divide”

[Tafsir al-`Ayyashi] From Muhammad b. Sulayman al-Basri ad-Daylami from his father from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام regarding His saying “And you were on the edge of a pit of fire, but He rescued you therefrom”: Muhammad صلى الله عليه واله وسلم.

[Tafsir al-`Ayyashi] From Abu ‘l-Hasan `Ali b. Muhammad b. Maytham from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام.  He said: Rejoice in the greatest of kindnesses upon you, the saying of Allah “And you were on the edge of a pit of fire, but He rescued you therefrom” So the rescue is a gift from Allah, and Allah does not go back on His gift.

[Tafsir al-`Ayyashi] From Ibn Harun.  He said: When Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام would mention the Prophet صلى الله عليه واله وسلم, he said: By my father and my mother, and my soul and my people and my progeny, astonishment for the Arab how they do not bear us on their heads, while Allah says in His Book “And you were on the edge of a pit of fire, but He rescued you therefrom”.  So by the Messenger of Allah – by Allah – they were rescued.

[Tafsir al-Qummi] Abu ‘l-Jarud from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام regarding His saying “And do not divide” He said: Allah تبارك وتعالى knew that they would separate after their Prophet and disagree. So he prohibited them from disunion as He prohibited whoever was before them.  So He commanded them to convene upon the walayat of the Family of Muhammad صلى الله عليهم and to not divide themselves.

[al-Kafi] `Ali b. Ibrahim from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from his father from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام, His تعالى saying “And you were on the edge of a pit of fire, but He rescued you therefrom” by Muhammad.  Thus – by Allah – did Jibra’il عليه السلام come down with it upon Muhammad صلى الله عليه وآله.
