165-167

165 – Yet there be men who take to themselves compeers apart from Allah, loving them as Allah is loved.  If only the evildoers might see, when they see the punishment, that the power altogether belongs to Allah, and that Allah is severe in punishment.

166 – When those who were followed disassociate from those that followed, and they see the punishment and their ties are cut asunder.

167 – And those that followed say: Had we but another turn, then would we disassociate from them as they disassociated from us. So will Allah show them their deeds as regrets for them, and they shall not come forth from out the Fire.

[Tafsir al-`Ayyashi] From Jabir.  He said: I asked Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام about the saying of Allah “Yet there be men who take to themselves compeers apart from Allah, loving them as Allah is loved” He said: So he said: They are the loyalists of so-and-so and so-and-so, they took them as Imams without the Imam that Allah made for the people as an Imam.  Allah تبارك وتعالى said “If only the evildoers might see” al-aya, up to His saying “from the Fire” He said: Then Abu Ja`far عليه السلام said: By Allah, O Jabir, they are the Imams of oppression and their partisans.

[al-Ikhtisas] From `Amr b. Thabit, he said: I asked Abu Ja`far عليه السلام about the saying of Allah “Yet there be men who take to themselves compeers apart from Allah, loving them as Allah is loved” He said: So he said: They – by Allah – are the loyalists of so-and-so and so-and-so and so-and-so.  They took them as Imams without the Imam which Allah made as an Imam for the people.  So that is the saying of Allah تعالى “If only the evildoers might see” up to His saying “from the Fire” Then Abu Ja`far عليه السلام said: By Allah, O Jabir, they are the Imams of oppression and their partisans.
