From Sura Aali `Imran

 

{ قُلْ أَؤُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ مِّن ذٰلِكُمْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَأَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَرِضْوَانٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِٱلْعِبَادِ } * { ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَآ آمَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ }

حَدَّثَنا عليُّ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قالَ: حَدَّثَني الحُسَيْنُ بنُ الحَكَمِ الحِبَرِيُّ، قالَ: حَدَّثَنا حَسَنُ بنُ حُسَيْنٍ، قالَ: حَدَّثنا حِبَّانُ، عن الكَلْبِيّ، عن أَبي صَالحٍ، عن ابنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قالَ: { قُلْ أَؤُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ مِّن ذٰلِكُمْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَأَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَرِضْوَانٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِٱلْعِبَادِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَآ آمَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ } في عَليٍّ وَحَمْزَةَ وَعُبَيْدَةَ بنِ الحَارِث.

 

Say, 'But shall I tell you of a better thing than this?' For those who are god-fearing are gardens with their Lord, beneath which rivers flow; they shall dwell therein foever, and pure wives and grace from Allah; Allah looks on His servants, who say, 'Lord, we believe, pardon Thou our sins and keep us from the torment of the fire,' (3:15-16)

`Ali b. Muhammad narrated to us.  He said: al-Husayn b. al-Hakam al-Hibari narrated to me.  He said: Hasan b. Husayn narrated to us.  He said: Hibban narrated to us from al-Kalbi from Abu Salih from Ibn `Abbas.  He said: “Say, 'But shall I tell you of a better thing than this?' For those who fear are gardens with their Lord, beneath which rivers flow; they shall dwell therein forever, and pure wives and grace from Allah; Allah looks on His servants, who say, 'Lord, we believe, pardon Thou our sins and keep us from the torment of the Fire’” (3:15-16) regarding `Ali and Hamza and `Ubayda b. al-Harith.

 

{ فَمَنْ حَآجَّكَ فِيهِ مِن بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْاْ نَدْعُ أَبْنَآءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمْ وَأَنْفُسَنَا وأَنْفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَل لَّعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَاذِبِينَ }

و ‌قوله‌: تَعَالَوْاْ نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمْ وَأَنْفُسَنَا وأَنْفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَل لَّعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَاذِبِينَ } نَزَلَتْ في رَسُولِ الله صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ [وَآلِهِ] وَعَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ نَفْسِهِ وَنِساءُنا وَنِسَاءُكُمْ فَاطِمَةٌ، وَأَبْناءُنا وَأَبْنَاءُكُمْ حَسَنٌ وَحُسَيْنٌ. وَالدُّعاءُ على الكاذِبِيْنَ: العاقِبُ والسَيِّدُ وَعَبْدُ المَسِيْحِ وأَصْحابُهُم.  

حَدَّثَنَا عَليُّ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قالَ:  حَدَّثَني الحِبَريُّ، قالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إسْماعِيلُ بنُ أَبان، قالَ: حَدَّثَنا إسْحاقُ بنُ إبْراهِيْمَ، عَن أَبي هارُوْنَ، عَن أَبِي سَعِيْدٍ الخُدْرِيّ، قالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هذِهِ الآيةُ: { تَعَالَوْاْ نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ } قال‌: فخرج‌ ‌رسول‌ اللّه‌ صلّي‌ اللّه‌ ‌عليه‌ [و آله‌] بعلي‌ّ و فاطمة و الحسن‌ و الحسين‌.

 

And whoso disputes with thee after what has come to thee of knowledge, say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves: then we will imprecate and put Allah's curse on those who lie.' (3:61)

And His saying “Come, let us call our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves: then we will imprecate and put Allah's curse on those who lie.” was sent down regarding the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله and `Ali عليه السلام (was) his self, and “our women and your women” (was) Fatima, and “our sons and your sons” (was) Hasan and Husayn.  And the supplication against the liars: the `Aqib, the Sayyid and `Abd al-Masih and their companions.

`Ali b. Muhammad narrated to us.  He said: al-Hibari narrated to me.  He said: Isma`il b. Aban narrated to me.  He said: Ishaq b. Ibrahim narrated to us from Abu Harun from Abu Sa`id al-Khudri.  He said: When this aya “Come, let us call our sons and your sons” was sent down, he said: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله came out with `Ali and Fatima and al-Hasan and al-Husayn.

 

{ ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّن بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاساً يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةً مِّنْكُمْ وَطَآئِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنْفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ ظَنَّ ٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ ٱلأَمْرِ مِن شَيْءٍ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلأَمْرَ كُلَّهُ للَّهِ يُخْفُونَ فِيۤ أَنْفُسِهِم مَّا لاَ يُبْدُونَ لَكَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَٰهُنَا قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْ وَلِيَبْتَلِيَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِي صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ }

حَدَّثَنا عليُّ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قالَ: حَدَّثَني الحِبَريُّ، قالَ: حَدَّثَنا حَسَنُ بنُ حُسَيْنٍ، قالَ: حَدَّثَنا حِبَّانُ، عن الكَلْبِي، عن أَبي صَالحٍ، عن ابنِ عَبَّاسٍ، في قولِهِ:{ ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِّن بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاساً يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةً مِّنْكُمْ } نَزَلَتْ في عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، غَشِيَهُ النُّعَاسُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ

 

Then He sent down upon you after trouble safety,- drowsiness covering over one company of you, and one company of you getting anxious about themselves, suspecting about Allah other than the truth, with the suspicion of the ignorant, and saying, 'Have we any chance in the affair?' Say, 'Verily, the affair is Allah's.' They conceal in themselves what they will not show to thee, and say, 'If we had any chance in the affair we should not be killed here.' Say, 'If ye were in your houses, surely those against whom slaughter was written down, would have gone forth to fight even to where they are lying now; that Allah may try what is in your breasts and assay what is in your hearts, for Allah doth know the nature of men's breasts.'  (3:154)

`Ali b. Muhammad narrated to us.  He said: al-Hibari narrated to me.  He said: Hasan b. Husayn narrated to us.  He said: Hibban narrated to us from al-Kalbi from Abu Salih from Ibn `Abbas regarding His saying “Then He sent down upon you after trouble safety,- drowsiness creeping over one company of you” was sent down regarding `Ali عليه السلام and the covering of drowsiness on the day of Uhud.

 

{ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُواْ للَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ مِن بَعْدِ مَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْقَرْحُ لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُواْ مِنْهُمْ وَٱتَّقَواْ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ }

وقوله:{ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُواْ للَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ مِن بَعْدِ مَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْقَرْحُ } يَعْنِي الجَراحَةَ { لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُواْ مِنْهُمْ وَٱتَّقَواْ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ }. نَزَلَتْ في عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ وَتِسْعَةِ نَفَرٍ مَعَهُ، بَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ الله صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ [وَآلِهِ] في أَثَرِ أَبي سُفْيانَ حِيْنَ ارْتَحَلَ، فاسْتَجابُوا للهِ وَرَسُولِهِ صَلّى الله عَلَيْهِ [وَآلِهِ].

 

Those who answered Allah and the Messenger after the wound had befallen them, for those, if they do good and fear Allah, is a mighty wage. (3:172)

And His saying “Those who answered Allah and the Messenger after the wound had befallen them” meaning the injury “for those, if they do good and fear Allah, is a mighty wage” was sent down regarding `Ali عليه السلام and nine individuals with him.  The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله sent them after Abu Sufyan when he moved.  So they answered Allah and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وآله.

 

{ لَتُبْلَوُنَّ فِيۤ أَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوۤاْ أَذًى كَثِيراً وَإِن تَصْبِرُواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ فَإِنَّ ذٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلأُمُورِ }

وَقَوْلُهُ:{ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوۤاْ أَذًى كَثِيراً } نَزَلَتْ في رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ [وَآلِهِ] خَاصَّةً وفي أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ.

 

You shall surely be tried in your wealth, and in your selves, and you shall surely hear from those who have had the Book brought them before you, and from those who associate others with Allah, much harm. But if you are patient and god-fearing, verily, that is one of the determined affairs. (3:186)

And His saying “and you shall surely hear from those who have had the Book brought them before you, and from those who associate others with Allah, much harm” was sent down regarding the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله specifically and regarding his Ahl al-Bayt.

 

{ يَا أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ ٱصْبِرُواْ وَصَابِرُواْ وَرَابِطُواْ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ }

وَقَوْلُهُ: { ٱصْبِرُواْ } أَنْفسَكُم { وَصَابِرُواْ } عَدُوَّكُمْ { وَرَابِطُواْ } في سَبِيْلِ الله { [وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ] لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ }. نَزَلَتْ في رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ [وَآلِهِ]، وَعَليٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، وَحَمْزَةَ بنِ عَبْدِ المُطَّلِبِ.

 

O you who believe, be patient and vie in being patient, and be on the alert, and fear Allah, that haply you may prosper. (3:200)

And His saying “be patient” yourselves “and vie in being patient” your enemy “and be on the alert” in the path of Allah “[and fear Allah], that haply you may prosper” was sent down regarding the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله and `Ali عليه السلام and Hamza b. `Abd al-Muttalib.
